Shannon Holliday
Biography
While Shannon’s litigation experience is diverse, her practice has been focused for several years on three major areas: civil rights defense, post-secondary education law, and representing small and mis-sized businesses and nonprofits.
Shannon works extensively in the field of civil rights defense, including representing municipalities and other governmental entities and government employees in defending both class and individual-plaintiff actions. This work is largely before the federal court. Shannon’s goal in representing government entities and employees is both to defend her clients in court and to serve in an advisory capacity to help them avoid the adverse impact of costly litigation when possible.
In addition, Shannon has represented post-secondary institutions on a regular basis. Since starting at Copeland Franco, she has both advised, in an outside counsel role, and represented these clients in cases involving various issues, including Title IX, Title VII, contract matters, and internal governance.
Shannon also has a true passion for representing small and mid-sized businesses and nonprofits – entities that often do not have in-house counsel – in a very close advisory capacity and in litigation. On the litigation front, she understands the high stakes litigation can often have for a small or mid-sized business and works closely wth her clients. She values being able to give advice that both takes into account her understanding of a business’s immediate needs and also, ideally, saves the client time and money. Adding value to her clients’ businesses is her priority. Her work runs the gamut from providing representation in connection with EEOC investigations and employment litigation, to writing and editing employee handbooks, working with the client to structure separation agreements, to handling defamation actions, to handling business litigation involving non-compete agreements and the like.
